Parties were never y/n’s thing. Nor Ludwig’s, or Arthur’s, or Gilbert’s. But maybe they’re Francis’s thing.

But everyone knew social interactions, especially parties, affected y/n and Ludwig the most.

Despite this common knowledge, this party in particular is a requirement for everyone involved.

Even y/n and Ludwig.

The five presently faceless names have managed to graduate at the top of their Academy. The Top 5 of 50,000 nationwide.

This specific academy functions almost as basic training for the Old Military in Adriac; the Human nation, though is more of a grueling five year ordeal in which every academy attendee is expected to learn and excel at the skills needed to fight that which goes bump in the night, so to speak, and starting at the tender age of 12-13.

All attendees excel. Only a few manage to go above and beyond those who ‘simply’ excel. y/n, Ludwig, Arthur, Francis, and Gilbert are those few who managed to graduate in the Top 5, the Elite, though not in that specific order.

And for this accomplishment, the Academy is obligated to throw a graduation celebration for the regular graduates, as well as an award ceremony for the elite, which the reluctant prodigies are also obligated to attend along with all other graduating members.

For this specific party, no graduate even questioned attending. Everyone wanted to watch as the five are awarded their badges. While the five do not enjoy socializing in large groups, they are still well known throughout the school by students who know them by either individual socialization or through the universally known legends.

Yes, these five in particular are legendary, and everyone wants to witness a legend firsthand.

Not only was it previously unheard of that all of the Top 5 hailed from the same Academy, all five are best friends, and two of them are among the youngest to graduate in the Top 5 at the age of 17.

As everyone takes their seats in the large banquet hall reserved for this occasion, the five young elites step onto the stage at the front of the room.

They line up side by side, in the order of rankings they achieved.

Out of the five, coming in first is Ludwig. The surprisingly short youthful individual stands beside y/n, who achieved second. Gilbert came in third, though missed second by a hair in his final scoring. Francis pulled fourth, followed closely by Arthur, who attained fifth.

All five of them really do not want to be there. Except maybe Francis.

The five stand before the entirety of their fellow graduating classmates, who wait in awed silence for these elite to be presented with their hard-earned gold-plated Hunter’s badge and official license, which will both display their rankings as Top 5. Everyone, including these five, already don their official Hunter’s uniforms, the ‘not-required-but-extremely-suggested’ work attire for the job every graduate will now take up. Though they aren’t wearing them, all graduates also receive a large utility belt and bag that holds all of their equipment, which they have proven time and again that they are trained enough to utilize them when needed.

Ludwig, y/n, Gilbert, Francis, and Arthur stand at attention as the newly elected President of the Hunter’s Association and leader of Adriac, President Elizaveta Hedervary, mounts the steps, followed by two other high-ranking officials.

President Hedervary strides to the microphone standing at the front of the stage, which emits a bit of static when she switches it on.

The room is dead silent as everyone awaits the coming speech.

The leader’s militarian facade melts into gentle amusement. “Thank you for your absolute attention, everyone. I know this is a very important day for you all, but haven’t we worked you all the the bone already? You should know by now that we put you all through the rigorous training for a reason. We need to make up for our informality.” She smiles a toothy grin, receiving a few chuckles.

“Well, I suppose I have to give a serious speech. Let’s have a brief history lesson. All of you are aware of the war that was waged so long ago. However, not many people know what exactly happened. Adriac is composed of humans, as you all know. Humans, by nature, are violent, conceited beings who believe themselves ‘better’ than everything else. We humans decided the world would be better if we rid it of all other creatures. We foolishly attacked the kingdoms of Frey, Thya, Kedas, Onahan, and Maurelle, the great kingdoms of Elves, Faeries, Orcs, Nymphs, and Faerydae. Needless to say, our offense was countered and devastated almost effortlessly by the combined efforts of the kingdoms. A war began, and atrocities were committed by both sides. We received the brunt of these barbaric acts, one of which was the mass rape of all of our citizens. This obscene act was encouraged by the Magical Forces to their armies, because they knew what would result. The monstrous half human, half other creatures emerged and began terrorizing our nation even after the war was over. Their population grew and soon outnumbered our own as our population succumbed to these mindless vile creatures’ instincts. We became their food, and we were nearly powerless against them. This was the Magical Force’s goal.

“I don’t think I have to say again that we lost. As a second punishment for our attack, a barrier was put in place around our nation. Nobody can come or go from Adriac, leaving us to deal with the creatures ourselves without the chance of us fleeing. That was when the Hunter’s Association was formed. We began training whoever was able, and eventually were able to gather enough forces to fend off these monsters. With our efforts, we were able to rebuild our nation to where we are today. While these creatures still exist and still pose a significant threat, we are now able to fight them back. With this threat being handled extremely well, we have recently been able to begin diplomatic talks with the Magical Forces. They have already allowed the reopening of Celestial City, the go-between city that diplomats from all kingdoms and nations go to in order to have peace talks.

“I am pleased to tell you that after nearly 130 years of being cut off from the rest of the world, there have been discussions about lowering the magical barrier around Adriac.”

There is a thunderous round of applause as well as massive amounts of cheering from the crowd filling the massive hall. President Hedervary allows the ruckus to go on for a few moments before motioning for everyone to settle down again.

“Now, as you all are aware, you have trained and worked to the bone to get to where you are today. We trained you all physically, mentally, and emotionally to prepare you for the grueling task of protecting Adriac’s citizens from the monsters we are all so aware of, and garner the skills needed to aid in foreign affairs when the need arises. Some of you have come close to brushing with death during your training as a result of this. No, the Hunter’s Academy is not for the faint of heart, and neither is the job you have all opted to take upon graduating. All of you have proven yourselves as capable of taking this job, however these five outstanding individuals here,” she turns to gesture to Ludwig, y/n, Gilbert, Francis, and Arthur, “have showcased their skills on many occasions that they are more than worthy of graduating. They have gone above and beyond minimum, surpassing average, and have proven themselves to be the best of the best.”

She pauses to allow another thunderous round of applause.

“For this feat, we present every Elite member of the Hunter’s Association with a distinct license and badge which will let people know just how outstanding they have done in the Academy.” She glances towards the officials who hold the badges and licenses. The officials step forward and open the two boxes holding the coveted objects.

“Ranking 5th is Arthur Kirkland.” There is another round of applause as Arthur steps forward to claim his badge and license. He shakes hands with the two officials as well as President Hedervary, and walks down the steps before taking a seat at the reserved table situated in front of the stage.

“Ranking 4th is Francis Bonnefoy.” The tall young man grins wide and bows, not in the least embarrassed by the applause. For him, being the center of attention like this is fine. He accepts the badge and license and takes a seat next to Arthur, slinging his arm lazily over his shoulder.

“In 3rd is Gilbert Beilschmidt.” Gilbert smiles as he collects the badge and license, and strides quickly down to the table. He mentally prepares for the speech he must give in a bit.

“In 2nd we have y/n.” y/n gives the audience an anxious side smile, receives their awaited badge and license, and takes a seat alongside their friends.

“Finally, ranking 1st and proving himself as the best out of all 50,379 of this year’s graduating class, Ludwig Beilschmidt.” Ludwig purses his lips in a small attempt at a smile before collecting the remaining Badge and license from President Hedervary and quickly taking his seat next to y/n.

y/n reaches over and grasps Ludwig’s hand under the table, sensing his tension from being around so many people. Ludwig immediately calms down a little, reassured by y/n’s soothing touch.

Everyone’s attention falls back to Hedervary.

“Now all the serious stuff is finished, for the most part. I’m sure everyone knows that our dress code is lax. It’s recommended you wear the uniform on hunts, but you can wear anything you want as long as you get the job done efficiently, however it is required you wear the belt and your badge. The only time your full uniform is absolutely required is for ‘formal’ meetings. Other than that, that’s it. Now I can stop boring you all and you can start eating your food. Speeches from the new elite will take place after dinner.” She places the microphone back on the podium, and joins the 5 friends at the table of honor, followed by the two other officials.

As President Hedervary sits at the head of the table, caterers begin bringing out platters of food to the table.

Hedervary turns to Ludwig who sits on her right. “Congratulations again, Ludwig. As you can imagine, I’ve heard a lot about you, ranking number 1. Your mother would be proud.”

Ludwig freezes in his seat, suddenly holding y/n’s hand in a death grip. This gets y/n’s attention, who quickly intervenes.

“So how did you become President so young? You’re like 30.” y/n cuts in, cringing a bit at their own informality. “The last President was sworn in at 50.”

Hedervary sighs. “Well, graduating in 3rd helps a significant amount, as well as being one of the main diplomats stationed in Celestial City at the time the initial peace talks were made. I started my campaign before I was even out of the Academy, so I guess I got a head start.”

A server places a platter of chicken in front of them, pausing the conversation for a moment. Everyone at the table eats in silence, listening to the buzz of the 500 graduates and their families talking about what’s to come.

Gilbert thinks about going home and sleeping.

Francis thinks about absolutely nothing. He’s inside his ‘nothing’ box for the time being.

Arthur thinks about what he’s going to say for his short speech.

Ludwig thinks about melting into his chair.

y/n worries about Ludwig melting into his chair.

“The five of you have a good chance at being stationed in Celestial City. You wouldn’t have to stress about fighting halfers there. There’s wards there that they aren’t able to get through. Not even witches.”

Already desperately wanting to go back home and get away from this large gathering, Ludwig chokes on a piece of chicken. “W-why the hell would we work this hard to get to the Top 5 in the entire nation only not use our skills to help people whatsoever?” He snaps. Ludwig grips his fork tightly, causing his knuckles turning white. “That’s complete bullshit.”

The entire table stares at Ludwig open mouthed.

y/n’s only thought is “Shit”

President Hedervary regards the raven-haired individual evenly. “Unfortunately, Ludwig, even if you disagree with how I lead the Association, I am still your superior. A bit of rationality and respect will serve you well, 1st or not.”

Ludwig’s face flushes in embarrassment. The table resumes eating in a now awkward silence.

Not a word is said for a small duration of time, in which both y/n and Ludwig's anxiety quickly builds to unbearable levels.

Now extremely uncomfortable, Gilbert, Arthur, Francis, Ludwig, and y/n get up and move back to the stage. To the five, public speaking is more appealing than being in the same general vicinity as their leader.

Gilbert takes the microphone, composing himself first. “So we finished eating early, so we’re gonna start the speeches now rather than bore you guys later.”

The hall erupts into cheers as everyone situates themselves to hear firsthand accounts of the stories they’ve only heard in rumor.

“Okay, so I’m pretty sure Francis and I are the only ones who are really prepared for this, so I guess I’ll start and then hand it off to Francis at some point. Where should I start? I’ll start talking about Academy life? The last 5 years have been absolutely insane, as all of you know. And I’m sure all of you also know by now how exceptionally difficult it is to graduate at the top of the class. But this asshole here,” He gestures to y/n, “as well as these assholes here” He sweeps his arm towards Arthur, Francis, and Ludwig, “AND myself, well, we all somehow managed to graduate at the top of our class. Kinda a miracle considering Arthur is a fuckin’ klutz. How he managed to even make it to graduation without maiming himself remains a mystery to me.”

The entire room erupts into laughter and chatter as everyone shares different versions about Arthur’s infamous incident involving a woodchipper, a goat, and a vampire they were trying to trap for a school hunt.

Arthur covers his face with his hands, blonde hair getting mussed as the night wears on.

“For those of you here who DON’T know how hard it is to graduate at the top of the class, or just weren’t listening when President Hedervary was talking, let me explain; it involves a shitload of blood, sweat, and tears. Literally. We are worked to the bone, to the point of falling from exhaustion, and at some points, almost to death to get where we are now. Hunter’s Academy isn’t for the faint of heart. We are trained intellectually, physically, and emotionally so we can help you all with the things that go bump in the night without killing ourselves or you, and we have the badge, license, and training to show for it. For my brother Ludwig, the hardest part seemed to be not killing YOU guys, that bastard.”

Everyone once again trades versions of the time Ludwig broke a client’s ribs for falsely accusing a neighbor witch of practicing Black Magic.

Ludwig’s face flushes from the attention as he unconsciously tries to make himself look taller.

“There’s only one person I know that can smooth something like that over, and that’s Francis. This guy here can easily schmooze his, and our, way out of any situation. Pretty helpful when we run into trouble with clients, but sometimes his charm comes off a little aggressively or even a bit sickening in my opinion. Arthur, how do you deal with him?”

Arthur shrugs as Francis bends down to kiss him.

Someone in the audience screams “YEEEEESSS”

Francis looks up and points in the person’s general direction before giving a thumbs up. His face spreads into a very wide, goofy grin, the trademark of his self-absorbed self.

Gilbert rolls his eyes before continuing. “y/n! This is your birthday AND our grad night. That makes you the youngest person to graduate as one of the elite, isn’t it?” People nod excitedly in the audience. Gil lets out his bizarre trademark laugh.

People begin clapping, but Gilbert holds up a hand. “One second, I’m not done yet. I’m sure you all remember this story since most of you were on the same trip as us. y/n here, well, they saved all four of our asses singlehandedly from this mermaid that somehow managed to claw her way out of the sea and onto our boat when we were out on that school hunt. Who remembers that?”

Hands are raised all throughout the room. While they weren’t on their boat, they still saw the epic fight that broke out. y/n, somehow disarmed, used a single shard of obsidian to dispatch the mermaid that had Gilbert, Francis, Arthur, and Ludwig cornered. Tales of that conquest still circulate the school. y/n squirms uncomfortably, instinctively reaching for Ludwig’s hand. y/n reaches up to flick a stray strand of (h/c) out of their face.

“I guess I’m supposed to talk about myself as well, huh? Welp, there’s me. Hello. I am Gilbert, single, number 3 hunter out of 50,000 others, obviously very proud of myself and my little brother, and also very nervous to be talking in front of all of you so I’m talking a mile a minute. Who remembers that time I killed a werewolf with silver-laced pepperoni pizza? I say that as if I did it on purpose… I actually dropped a ring into the pizza on accident which we were using as bait since it was all we had at the time. Oops. Got the job done though!”

Everyone laughs, especially those who were on that same school hunt along with them.

“I should probably wrap this up now since I’m kinda freaking out internally up here. Excitement’s got me anxious. Well, I just wanna say congrats to everyone here, especially to y/n, Francis, Arthur, and yes, even Luddy. I look forward to hunting with all of you. Happy birthday y/n, and happy graduation to all of us. Now, for all of us graduates here, we’re officially part of the Hunter’s Association. We are awesome.”

Everyone erupts into applause for the upteenth time.

He moves to hand Francis the microphone, but Francis refuses.

“I think you covered it all.”

“Did I?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh.” He speaks directly into the microphone again. “I guess that’s it then. We can go home now.”

The five step off stage, all of them, including Francis, overstimulated and thoroughly anxious from the exhausting night.

The only thing Francis thinks about is watching TV at home with Arthur.

The only thing Arthur thinks about is taking a shower.

The only thing Gilbert thinks about is sleeping.

The only thing Ludwig thinks about is staring at a wall in silence for a few hours to heal from this experience.

The only thing y/n thinks about is huddling under their bed covers for a few days to heal from this experience.

"I love you guys, I really do, but I think I should chill at my own home for the next few days. I cannot handle seeing any other people right now." Gilbert says, clearly exhausted. “Luddy, you going home with y/n?”

Ludwig nods, holding y/n’s hand.

Francis snickers. “Going to get a home run tonight you two?” He has his own signature laugh as well, which earns him an elbow in the ribs.

“Bloody rude.” Arthur chides.

Ludwig and y/n blush but are used to such comments from their friends.

Everyone nods and bids goodbye to each other and are about to break off to find their own parental units, until a voice prevents them from leaving.
This is kinda a Highschool/monster hunter AU thing, so they're going to be OOC of course.

I kinda see Francey-pants and Gil as highschool fuckboys so expect some development there.

i honestly don't know what else to say right now because my brain is dead and I need a shower.
